Fujiyama! (not quite)

Had I not been trapped behind someone driving 40 mph all the way from Addison to Ferrisburgh today I might have reached a good spot for shooting the alpenglow on Camel’s Hump at just the right time.  I had to settle for a pink-hued version of the blue hour, which nonetheless allowed for some nice layering with the 400mm lens.

This turned out to be quite a successful excursion- I was on my way home from having picked up a life bird (Harris’s Sparrow in Bridport), and when I got home my neighbor/boss brought over a new (to me) snowblower. Thanks Dean!

Six-lined Racerunner

Probably common as dirt, but we don’t have too many lizards around here so I get over-excited.  Plus, he’s blue!

Jewett Farm Interiors

On Saturday I had the opportunity to serve as an ‘interpreter’ of the Jewett Barn in Weybridge during the Henry Sheldon Museum Historic Barn Tour.  I’d never been in the barn before, so when I arrived a I took some time to wander around a bit.  Fortunately the barn was interesting enough to create a compelling narrative of its place in Vermont agricultural history, and I think the tours went quite well.  We had 50 visitors come through despite being the most remote of the locations on the tour, and I’m happy that we were able to raise money for the museum and do some educating in the process.

We were busy enough that I didn’t have too many opportunities to focus on photographing the place, but I did get some composition exercise by shooting the interior.

Here’s the 1940/1960 ground-level stable addition, which made for a good vanishing point subject:

Sugar Hill Reservoir

Since I haven’t been able to get out and do much foliage photography this fall, here’s a panorama of Sugar Hill Reservoir in Goshen from way back in 2009 (click on the image to embiggen).  It seems like a lifetime ago- I think (hope?) I’d do much better with this same scene now.

More Theron Boyd

I’ve added a few more of the Theron Boyd House photos to the website under Recent Work (even though they’re not terribly recent, I guess) and uploaded the whole set of eight at 500px.

And here’s some contextual information on the Theron Boyd House in the form of a National Register nomination.

Theron Boyd House

Just added an image of the Theron Boyd House (in Quechee) to the photo site.  I have a series of these that I’m re-editing, several of which will probably end up there and the rest of which I’ll probably upload as a ‘story’ on 500px.

Shelburne Farms After Dark Redux

Here are a few new edits of some images I made at Shelburne Farms last January- it was quite a learning experience for me, particularly regarding the relationship between shutter speed and digital noise.  I’m still not as thrilled with these as I thought I’d be when I was looking through the viewfinder, but they’re not terrible.
